I started TheContractorsGroup.com in 1999 as a place to provide practical information and resources for construction contractors.

At the time, I had already spent several years learning the business side of construction firsthand — everything from paperwork, invoicing, preliminary notices, releases, payroll reporting, proposals, and day-to-day office administration to dealing with the kinds of problems contractors encounter when trying to run a business and get paid.

As other contractors began asking me for help, I realized that much of what I had learned could help people beyond my own business. They kept telling me to write a book but because a book could quickly become outdated, I decided to build a website where information could be updated and shared more easily, and accessed 24/7 so that those contractors wielding hammers by day and pens by night would also be able to access the info.

Over time, TheContractorsGroup grew to include several websites with downloadable construction forms and templates, additional websites, articles, custom work, and many other forms of business support.

What began as a way to help contractors find information became a business that lasted more than 25 years.

Although I'll be closing the forms and templates sales side of TheContractorsGroup, I am not erasing its history, nor am I disappearing. I'll still be here to help.

This site will continue as the permanent home of TheContractorsGroup. Over time, I plan to add more of the story — including the people who helped me along the way, the forms and resources I created, old websites and screenshots, articles and publications, customer stories, and some of the experiences that shaped the business.

There is far more to the story than can fit on one page.

For now, this is simply the beginning of preserving it.
